As the early morning mist rolled over Mae Hong Son, I set off along Highway No. 108, eager to experience the famous Pha Bong Hot Springs. Just a 10-kilometer drive from the town, the journey itself was a delight, with winding roads flanked by lush greenery. Upon arrival, the sight of steam rising gently from the mineral-rich springs immediately set a calming tone for the day.

Experiencing the Springs

I decided to start with a private hot spring bath—just me, the soothing waters, and the sound of nature. At 150 baht for an hour, it felt like a luxurious escape at a fraction of the cost. For those looking to socialize, there’s also a shared bath option for up to ten people at 400 baht. Afterward, I treated myself to a rejuvenating Thai massage for 150 baht, followed by a stroll along the cemented walkway encircling the spring.

Local Charm and Nearby Attractions

What makes Pha Bong Hot Spring special is not just the relaxing experience but the connection to the local community. Products made by housewives, like lotions and creams infused with mineral water, were on display. I couldn’t resist picking up a few as souvenirs. Later, I ventured to Huay Pu Keng - Kayan Village, just a short drive away, where I learned about the fascinating traditions of the Kayan people. For a spiritual touch, I visited the serene Wat Chong Kham, located by a picturesque lake.

Getting There

Head south on Highway No. 108 from Muang Mae Hong Son toward Khun Yuam District. A well-marked turnoff will guide you to Pha Bong Hot Springs, open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
