Muang On Cave is situated at Sankampaeng near the Hot Springs. A long staircase leads up to the mouth of the cave. A steep climb down again gives access to a number of caverns filled with impressive stalagmites and stalactites. There is a strange limestone formation that was once mistaken for the skeleton of a dinosaur. In one cavern is a large Buddha image. The cave itself had a beautiful scenery with limestone hills and cliff , natural furnished with stalagmite , stalactite. Include with captivating history and legend of this historic cave.
Before the Sam kam paeng hot spring on the left hand side visit the Muang On cave. From the car park you have to climb up a steep Naga Serpent stairway, about 180 steps, before reaching the entrance to the cave. The entrance fee is 30THB and it goes towards the upkeep of the cave system. Check that the lights have been switched on before descending into some big caverns. A large seated Buddha image amidst stalactites creates an impressive effect. The Muang On Cave are filled with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. There is a winding concrete pathway along the cavern floor allowing you to wander along till you finally reach the end of the caverns. All the way along the path you will see dozens more of the little shrines that have been erected over the decades. No need to duck your head moving around in this cave system as it if full of towering caverns and fluorescent lights artfully placed around to enhance the look and feel of natural rock formations.

A 30 foot long “Reclining Buddha” named Pro Garoona Sai Yars. Built four years ago, this relaxed
‘fella’ looks strangely out of place in an environment that most people find “spooky” to say the least. The basement of the cave is littered with tiny images resting on small niches in the cave wall. These are dwarfed by a handsome meditative Buddha image that sits high up on a ledge just above a naturally formed basin of water. But the centerpiece of this spacious grotto is a gigantic stalagmite named “Jedee Mae Nomm Fah”. This awesome formation of nature is thirty feet high and ten feet in diameter. Wrapped around it are several brightly colored sashes in red, yellow and orange, resulting in projecting a surreal effect upon the entire scene, of the cave floor. It is an astounding sight.

A visit to the Muang On caves is only for the fit. Firstly there is a long climb up a Naga staircase from the car park, before reaching the entrance to the caves. The caves are well lit and there are young guides available to point out the major sites, which are also Buddhist shrines. However to reach the famous stalagmite it is necessary to climb down a long concrete staircase, which means it is along climb back up to exit the caves.
After tour to Muang on Cave, and if you are in love with nature then head away from the tourist trail and visit the Sankampaeng Hot Spring (5 kms. from this cave). The natural spring of Sankampaeng Hot Spring is emitting water with high sulphur content and said to cure ailments and rejuvenate the body. At the spring people are able to picnic and even swim in the clean rejuvenating warm waters. People are also able to enjoy a massage and swim in the natural warm mineral water pool set amongst magnificent scenery and accompanied by a visit to the handicraft village where people make wood carving, traditional Thai silk, umbrella etc. You will be back to the hotel in the evening.
