Wat Phrathat Doi Saket or Doi Saket Temple

Wat Phrathat Doi Saket or Doi Saket Temple

Doi Saket temple is very beautiful and enriched with amazing decorating styles. The
paintings on the walls of the Vihan, the entrance to the temple, and the statues all truly reflect the long, glorious and vibrating culture and history. The entrance to the temple (as is the case at Doi Suthep) has a steep set of stairs leading to the temple. The most prominent feature of the Doi Saket Temple is the giant golden sitting Buddha (Phra Buddha Pathimakorn), visible from the road leading to the temple. If you don’t feel up to the climb, have no fear as the road continues to the right and winds up to the top of the hill. There’s even a cute little coffee shop near the parking area if you need a refreshment. The interior walls of the temple are decorated with modern spiritual murals, painted by Khun Chaiwat Wannanon. There is also a monastic school located on the grounds of the temple.

History :

The temple at Doi Saket is said to have been built in the year 1112. The legend is that the Lord Buddha had come to Doi Saket for a short time, and was visited by naka whom he offered his hair for the purpose of worship. Shortly after he is said to have dissapeared, and this is the reason for the location of the temple. Thai artist, “Khun Chaiwat Wannanon” began painting the interior of the temple walls with spiritual Buddhist murals in the early 1990s. It took over 4 years for the murals to be completed. This is something that is unique to the temple at Doi Saket. Most Buddhist temples in Thailand do not have any modern art in a modern style.
How to get to Wat Phrathat Doi Saket

The Doi Saket district is predominantly a rural farming area, with plenty of rice fields in the valley as well as orchards and other farming on the mountainsides. It is located on the road north to Chiang Rai (Highway 118), just before the climb up the mountain. From the center of Chiang Mai. This is the main road that intersects the Super Highway right by the Arcade Bus Station and the new Central Festival shopping center. Just drive straight for about 15 km until you see the sign to turn right for Doi Saket. Keep following this road right through the middle of the little town and you’ll see an intimidating Naga staircase leading up to the temple. Other choices are more comfortable, Chiang Mai Tour Agency can provide private tours Chiang Mai to Doi Saket Temple or can combine program with Private tour Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.

Akha Hill tribe

The Akha Tribal in Thailand

One of the most intriguing and colourful items on any Northern Thailand tourist brochure is the attraction of the region’s hill tribes. Their distinctive traditional dress and bizarre headdress can be seen splashed all over postcards, and tour buses and trekking groups routinely troop through their villages. Photos are taken, a few pieces of their unique silver jewellery and handicrafts are purchases and then they are once again left to their poverty and isolation.

The Akha, also known to the Thai as the Gaw or the E-gaw are located primarily with Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces. The Akha originated in Yunnan in Southern China. Yunnan has the highest Akha population. Over several centuries many Akha have been migrating southward from their original home. In the middle of the 19th century significant numbers were moving into Kengtung State, the easternmost of the Shan States of Burma. Others made their way into Laos. The Akha in Thailand came from Burma. The first Akha village in Thailand was probably established in 1903 in the Phaya Phrai area on the Burmese border. Phaya Phrai is in Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai. There are a variety of schemes for writing Akha developed by missionaries or linguists which employ Roman, Thai or Burmese characters, but literacy in Akha is still virtually nil. The Akha are traditionally subsistence farmers, growing a variety of crops including rice and corn.
The Akha generally live in bamboo houses raised on low wooden stilts in hilly areas. These huts are divided by gender - one side is for the women, and the other side, occupied by the men, is used as a more public area. The Akha subsist through an often destructive form of slash and burn agriculture which can result in elimination of old growth forest, native animal species and serious soil runoff problems. They are expert farmers who focus on mountain rice, corn, and soybeans that are planted in seasonal shifts. The Akha are also very efficient hunters, though their prey sometimes includes endangered species. Some Akha grew opium for income in the past.
The main crop cultivated by the Akha is rice. This is their staple crop; however, they are also known to grow millet, peppers, sesame, and a variety of other vegetables that are indigenous to this region. The Akha also raise livestock, though it is typically only used for special occasions and sacrificial purposes. The Aka are also known to grown opium, though this tradition isn’t as popular as it once was, due to affects resulting from the addictive nature of the plant.

The Akha are a monogamous people for the most part, though it is believed, that there might be possible acceptance from the group for a man who chooses to have more than one wife. From a religious point of view, they are animists. Animists tend to be very connected to nature, and believe that everything is endowed with a soul, including animals and plants. Animist type religions are very popular among indigenous and traditional peoples.
The Akha also worship their ancestors. The Akha guard their village with impressive ceremonial gates, enshrined with human artifacts, as varied as traditional symbols of lovers embraced, all the way down to the airplanes of today. They decorate their gates with these representations of humanities, to inform the spirit world that only humans may enter the gates. Typically the gates are restored once a year.

Cooking Classe in Chiang Mai : Thai Kitchen Cookery Centre

Thai Kitchen Cookery Centre Fantastic fun, well run with friendly chatty staff.

Thai Kitchen Cookery Centre is one of various Thai cooking schools in Chiang Mai, and is a awfully solid school. They look after you and operate cooking into and fulfilling time, make certain you come with an empty tummy.

The staff will picked up and dropped off from your hostel by the very friendly staff. In the beginning we were given a petite intro and asked to select which 6 dishes we need to cook over the course of the day.
The marketplace tour is fascinating, data about the key ingredients of Thai food & what substitutions can be made when cooking back home. The venue was clean & staff collected dishes & pans as they were complete with to wash and reuse.
The first dish we made was a easy but flavorsome racy and sour soup. For each dish we had our own intimate coach/chef who helped us through the prep stage and showed us how to do each dish. They let you do all the work and let you tinker with the formulas if you like it a little more spicy, salty or sweet. We subsequently made a curry paste followed by a curry, stir fry, spring rolls and a dessert.
Staff show all the dissimilar substances we would be using and a exhaustive elucidation of all the numerous seafoods, herbs & spices etc. We had to select out our substances for our dishes & then we had some free time to wander all-around and view all the lovely foods on display.
Get a certificates & cookery book at the end so it is easy to make the things you will do at home!
You have to eat everything you cook. The portions you cook are for one & you make and eat food at intervals ensuring you can at least sample the dishes you make, if not eat all of them! At the end of the day.
The eating area is air conditioned which is good on those super burning days or if you've made your curry a little too spicy.
Exceedingly recommended activity whilst in Chiang Mai. Staff were fantastic and explained closely how to do things step-by-step & why they used the elements they did. Can't wait to try out when we back home.

Course State
Fairway : The feature of the golf course, a course mixed with mountain lake course. So the environment of fairway has up and down. Some shot must to hit past the water. And some fairways Dog Lake is slightly oblique exceptionally high. You'll need to plan a great shoot in order to drop on the green.
Green : Green's form is principally high greens and hard. But in some green, if you shoot to the higher than line, the chance to back down quite is hard. For example, if three holes embroidered on the front and back to hole the putt is going to be hard. It requires expertise ever. The speed of the green has not to cite that soon too.
Obstacles : the length on each hole, if it is planned well, then the chances are up on the green is not hard. But if you shoot without exceed disigning, therefore it is highly hard because the greens waiting. Some holes that need to be shoot over the water at far distance. If negligence is likely to fall in the hole some moves effortlessly.
Alpine golf Chiang Mai challenging hole

Hole 4 : Par 5 - Handicap 8 This is the longest par5 on the course and maybe the longest in Thailand. The key to this hole is the tee shot that has to negotiate trees on the right and out of bounds on the left. The second shot the player is faced with a decision whether to play short, left, right or try to carry the lone bunker in the middle of the fairway. The player that successfully carries that bunker will be left with less than 100 yards to the bunkerless green. The only thing to be careful of on the approach is to not go into the creek that awaits shots over the green.

Hole 9 : Par 4 - Handicap 6 The island fairway hole is both beautiful and difficult. Playing over water twice and almost directly into the prevailing wind makes this hole a challenging ending to the front nine. The tee shot is all important on this long par4. The best line is down the right half of the fairway. This requires the longest carry over the water but if successfully done, it also leaves the shortest shot with the best angle to the green. Tee shot to the middle or left half of the fairway leaves a longer second over water and bunker to a medium size green. Just like hole1, par is a very good score for this hole.

Hole 15 : Par 3 - Handicap 7 The island green is the most intimidating looking hole on the course. While only a short iron for most, the sight of the green surrounded by water makes most players tremble. But remember that while the island may look very small, it is nearly 50yards wide which is a large target for a shot of this length. The best play is no matter where the flag is, aim for the middle of the green, make par and be very happy.

Aside from the 18-hole golf course, visitors will always take pleasure in a number of excellent services at Alpine golf Chiangmai. These include a steamroom, a spa, sauna, outdoor pool, massage options, a hot tub, fitness centre, garden, poolside bar, meeting facilities and doorkeeper service. Chiang Mai Tours : Explore a Limestone Cave and Relaxing at Hot Spring in Chiang Mai

Overview : For something totally different to see and do, try to fit in your trip a visit to Muang On Cave system in the Chiang Mai area. This cave system is a fascinating place to visit.

Muang On Cave is situated in the San Kamphaeng District, about 35km East of Chiang Mai near the Sankampang Hot Springs. The road leading to Muang On Cave winds it’s way up the side of a hill. A long 187 steps of Naga Serpent stairway rewards with a scenic view over the valley, and a steep climb down of 132 steps leads to a number of caverns filled with impressive stalagmites and stalactites.

Once inside you have several steep staircases going down along with several flat walkways in between. All the way down you will pass by grottos dotted with shrines most of which are lit with fluorescent lights. When you reach the main cavern floor you will see a huge 30 foot long reclining Buddha. Look above the statue and see if you can see what some say is a fossilized dinosaur skeleton.

The most breathtaking is the steeple tall sparkling stalagmite, which also can be seen through a gap as big as a plane window along the stairway on the upper level. A corner of the cave where water spouts drops from the host of stalactites is also a wonder, especially so in the wet season when continuous gushes offer a vision of an underground waterfall. In one cavern is a large Buddha image.

After that visit Sankampang hot springs where the hot springs boil continuously and emit a strong smell of sulfur. You can also enjoy watching the thermal geysers rising inside the beautifully landscaped flower gardens within the park area.
